  1. I have a DVD with about 25 videoclips which are authored with 1 main-menue. All 25 clips are as several vobīs on the disc (each about 180 MB).

    VTS_01.inf
    VTS_01.bup
    VTS_01.vob - 190 MB
    VTS_02.inf
    VTS_02.bup
    VTS_02.vob - 170 MB
    and so on...

After each clip the DVD-Player skips to the next and this takes 1-2 seconds after each clip and its buzz as little bit.
    I donīt like this.

So my idea is to reauthor all 25 clips to 4x 1 GB streams like this:
    VTS_01.inf
    VTS_01.bup
    VTS_01_1.vob - 1 GB
    VTS_01_2.vob - 1 GB
    VTS_01_3.vob - 1 GB
    VTS_01_4.vob - 989 MB

So not several as before, but successive as 4x1GB streams. But the old menue should be taken automatically. So the programm should change the menue files (ifo,Bup) automatically.

Any idea which software can do this ?

If all tracks/vobs have same video properties could you join them and reauthor. I'm not sure how well the menus will work...they wont point to correct track. And no software can automatically fix that.

But you could join all vobs with vobmerge, then extract the video and audio stream with pgcdemux, author with muxman and last replace the menus with vobblanker.
    See this flash tutorial: http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Simplistic_Guide_for_Replacing_DVD_Streams_page1.html

Or it might be much easier with DVDRemake Pro.

Even assuming they're fully joinable, you don't want to join with some arbitrary 1GB boundary, you want to join them by like content. So you might even join them all together into a single 4GB mpg (NOT vob). Then when the authoring app compiles the dvd, it does the split to 1GB files properly in an optimized way. And there shouldn't be gaps at file borders, just at title borders.

Afa menus, you may keep the menu picture, but no matter what, if you do the join like you want, you will need to completely redo the navigational links, manually.

I asked a similar question in the AVStoDVD forum, and manolito responded with some idea's.
One of my concerns was how to find an easy way to set a chapter point at the start of each clip.

  5. If you don't care about chapters then:

    1. Demux them all to audio and video (PGCDemux)
    2. Use the 'Add' button' in Muxman to add all the little video and audio pieces together into one.
    3. Author into a single continuous DVD with no chapters.

There is typically a good reason why these clips are in separate vobs - their characteristics are different to one another.

You can easily check by loading the vobs one at a time into mediainfo and check the video bitrate and/or the audio bit rate. Even the SAR could be different on some.

Only if every single vob has identical characteristics can they be encoded in to a single set of vobs.

They are in separate VOBs because that's what a DVD is....

You can even make a DVD that contains both NTSC and PAL videos....they will be in different titles/VOB sets.
    VTS_01_1.vob NTSC
    VTS_01_2.vob NTSC

    VTS_02_1.vob PAL
    VTS_02_2.vob PAL
Of course you cannot have a menu but....it can be done.

What the OP is showing is just a normal authored DVD of 25 clips.

  8. Thanks for the answer and ideas. All vob have the same specification, so to join them is no problem.

But i donīt want to reauthor them manually with setting new menue starting points and create the dvd complete new. The menue is already present.

So i will check some of your suggestion and hope to find a program with set the starting points in the ifo and bup files automatically when a new ~190 MB vob in the 1 GB stream starts.

Don't waste too much time on it. Whatever you do to fix the clip/chapter problem means re-authoring and losing the menu.
I would try something simple first like putting a copy of the DVD (VIDEO_TS folder) on your computer and burn a copy of it with ImgBurn.

Ok. But I have done dvds like this. Many different clips, complex menus, and ALL are contained within vts_01....

All clips add up to over 1GB in total and still in one VOB file?
I've seen that in some cheap DVD recorders of yesteryear....Cyberhome I think. My dad had one and sent me a disc made with it.
I had one hell of a time tearing that apart to make a "real" DVD of it.

The disk uses virtually the full 4 gig.

For the OP, I have another suggestion.

Load all the vobs in to avstodvd and create the dvd with the default menu. It could be better than the one you already have.

If avstodvd does not mux them together (easier than trying to do it yourself) then it can not be done without re-encoding

What is the "padding" that ImgBurn adds to DVDs it burns? That is my thought as to what might fix the problem....or maybe running it through FixVTS then burning with ImgBurn.

  14. This sounds not bad:

"DVDStyler. There is an option to add a new file "as a chapter" which effectively combines the encoded input files to one title. You still have to set the chapter points at the start of every new source file by using the "Properties" menu, but this also is just one click."

Thatīs exactly what i mean: Every new videoclip-vob (25 x ~190 MB) as a chapter, to write the new datas (25 chapters) in the main ifo+bup but keep the old menue which was created as a little main vob-file at first. So without to author the DVD complete new.

    I will try it.

You still do not get it. Despite what you have been told.

Even if these 25 chapters combine and you, after authoring, have 4 vobs instead of 25, your original menu will not work. In fact that original menu disappears in to thin air.

But by all means ignore. Just find this out for yourself.

Your menu has already hired herself a divorce lawyer.....it's time to let go.

And if you swapped out the newly created Video_Ts.vob, ifo and bup with the old files, you would have to resort to low-level ifo edits.

Would those chapter points you then created work ? I think not.

  18. As has been made abundantly clear by now, you can't use the original menus. Not without completely redoing the menu navigation. All the buttons point to titles that will no longer exist. The navigation will have to be completely redone to point to chapters, and that's just the beginning.

You can use the menu backgrounds in any reauthored DVD which will be a lot easier. And it'll even look pretty much the same if the menus are static. If they're motion menus it may be beyond your level at the moment, but still doable. If AvsToDVD allows for the import of external BMPs or M2Vs for use in menus, (I don't know) you could use that as suggested to recreate your DVD with chapters rather than titles, and have the result look similar to the original.
