When using the VLC "take snapshot" feature the file prefix can be any name you want.
If you select "sequential numbering" there seems to be no options. It's always five
digits that start with 00001, 00002, etc.
I want my snapshots to look like this:
4003_00
4003_01
4003_02
4003_03
The prefix (4003_) is no problem. Can I change that five digit format so VLC will use my
sequential numbering system?

I don't think so.
I would try find a batch renamer. It should easily be able to rename just the "0000X" part to 0X.
