Hi. A company wants to edit some audio files and hold onto the project files for future use.
I use Wavosaur and Audacity myself, but they don't want to use those.
They also do not use Adobe products (other than Photoshop).

What are some commercial audio programs you recommend? Must work on a PC, cross-platform (PC+Mac, PC+ Linux) is also OK.

    It can't be a web-based editor either.

    Thank you.

Nuendo. Sonar. Logic (Mac). Many many others.

I see you mention "project files": that assumes a non-linear, multitrack DAW session app. Plus, you mentioned cross-platform: that rules a lot of them out. As smrpix already mentioned, ProTools is the king (for good reason).

But why are they able to dictate the app? If you are contracting, don't they just need your masters/stems? (project files being "re-edit backup") Who is editing this - you or them? Are they paying for you to buy something?

I'd suggest a Rapid Environment for Audio Production, Engineering, and Recording.
    So why not R.E.A.P.E.R ?

http://www.reaper.fm/ Check it out, it's really cool.
