  1. Hi folks,

I know its possible to use some DV Camcorders to do a "Pass Through" transfer of analogue VCR footage, using the camcorders analogue to digital converter, and outputting to a computer via firewire.

Is it possible for the camcorder to convert the incoming analogue VCR footage to digital, and instead of passing through, copy it to the camcorders internal DV tape?

    Many thanks.

  2. Yes. Many DV cameras have both capabilities.

I did exactly what you're doing with a Sony TRV-480. I converted old analog Video8 tapes as well as VHS to DV. Then I dumped the DV to modern MiniDV tapes for storage.
