  1. Morning all! I am new to the forum. I found this forum while trying to search on how to convert MKV files. I am looking to burn them for Xbox 360. I have scanned this forum and I am overwhelmed with all the information I have found on everything! Great site!

Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can find a way to burn downloaded movies to be played on Xbox 360?

For Xbox360 you need it to be an MP4/AVI/WMV. For this MKV I would suggest having it remuxed into an MP4, and the simplest way to do that would be with MKVtoMP4. Just be sure you output AAC 2.0 (AAC Stereo) as Xbox does not like any AC3 audio nor 5.1 Surround AAC.

While it will probably re-encode the audio, it won't touch the video, just repack it.

  5. Thanks...

How and what you mean by repack it... Compress it? How should I go abouts doing that?

I said repack because it's easier to understand, instead of remuxing. Your MKV contains an audio stream and a video stream, but those streams can be taken out and put into a MP4 without loss. Just Xbox 360 only likes AAC stereo in MP4s, or MP3 stereo in an AVI.

MKVtoMP4 does most of the work for you, just be sure it outputs AAC 2.0 (stereo). Your video is probably H.264 which could be put into the MP4 without re-encoding. Give it a try.

To watch a MP4 video file on the Xbox 360 I would transfer it to a normal USB memory stick (formatted to FAT32 <---important). If I had to use DVD, I would use Burnaware Free (Version 6.9.4 because newer version suck IMHO)
