  1. Hello
I have been unsuccessfull trying to use Virtualdub for a while now. I can't use it in overlay It makes me switch to preview which looks jerky. When I begin to capture the video, after a short time I get an AVIO ouput error saying parameter is not correct. What parameter? What does that mean? PLEASE, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. As it is everthing I do with TMPEGng I get sound droputs and can't figure out why???
    Thanks
    Joe R.

  2. Hello Joe,

Do you have any more specifics about your problem? What kind of hardware are you using, what type of compression, ec.

  3. The "preview" mode might look ugly on the screen, but it won't hurt your capture. You're probably facing a limitation of your capture hardware--many capture boards cannot do an overlay while capturing full-size video. This is a limitation of the popular Brooktree/Conexant series of video-capture chips.

The "parameter is incorrect" error sometimes shows up when you've captured more than 4 GB into a single file, and the API returns a bizarre error code. (The "parameter" is probably a bad seek offset.) If the capture file is about 4 GB in size, this is probably the cause. You can work around this problem by setting up at least one capture drive in the Capture Drives dialog (under the Capture menu), and enabling the checkmark next to Multisegment Capture in the Capture menu.

  4. Thanks for your help guys. I am using a WInTV PVR card. So I guess thats why I can't use overlay. I will try your suggestions on the other question. What about the tmpegng problem? Any ideas??

  5. I don't know what's causing the sound problem. Actually, I can't even be sure about the multi-segment problem until you test it.

Is the sound okay in the captured avi file, before you send it to TMPEG? (It might be necessary to save it as a WAV file if your computer can't play the video in real-time.) If the captured AVI has dropouts, too, try increasing the number of audio buffers under Preferences in the Video menu. (Or is it Settings?)
