    ok, so here is a link I have -

    can anyone tell me what to to with this using ffmpeg

    does it need editing in any way, or can someone tell me the exact command to use in ffmpeg.

    General solution (not for ffmpeg). Transform that link into one for downloading a fragment (fragment 2 here):
    http://vod-hds-uk-live.bbcfmt.vo.llnwd.net/usp/auth/vod/piff_abr_full_hd/d551ce-b07029...000-Seg1-Frag2

    Replace Frag2 with Frag[1:#], where # is the number of the last fragment and use the link in DownThemAll Firefox plugin. You can find # from known programme length, considering each fragment is 4 seconds long. Use UK IP for mass-downloading (I've tested, it works). Join fragments with Adobe HDS Downloader (standalone version recommended).
