Regarding CCE and Menu Creation!

I think this is in the right forum. Well, I was just curious what the huge advantage of CCE is over TMPGEnc (if any?)? I've heard that CCE is quicker but it also costs 250.00 dollars. Im kinda interested in using CCE because it can use variable settings for VBR passes unlike TMPGEnc. Ive been told that using single pass VBR is much quicker than 2 pass or 4 pass and the differenece in quality is insignificant. First off, is the speed increase true and is their a significant loss in quality using single pass VBR. As of now, it takes approx. 7 - 9 hours to encode a VCD, and many hours using DVD2SVCD to create a SVCD!! Looking for some alternative to speed the process as their is literally volumes of more films I would like to rip.

My second question is regarding Menu creation. I have looked at the guides on this site (waiting for Sefys menu creation guide using TSCV and VCDeasy) and have not determined what the best route is to use. Is their a particular way that "you" prefer to make menus, and if so is the time spent created them a)worth the time, b)functional, c)not too difficult of a process? I looked at the guide on doom9.org's site using TSCV and it appears to be very complicated and also is known to be buggy?

One last thing, is CCE really that expensive or Is their a way I can purchase an older version for less money that still provides the majority of functions (pre 2.5x versions)? DVD2SVCD best supports older versions of CCE but have yet to find a way to buy an older copy!!

Regarding your second question, did you see this guide? How to create VCD menus and chapters with VCDEasy. I think menus are well worth the time, and the process is not difficult. The most time-consuming part is probably generating the pictures that will become the menus, but that depends on how fancy you want them to look.

VCDEasy is definately better than TSCV IMO, not nearly as buggy and a much easier to use interface. As for menus, its easy and nice to make stills but also cool to copy the menus (I'm almost done writing a guide for that).

With CCE, 1-pass VBR looks nowhere as good as 3 or 4 passes. There arent really any extra functions that effect quality too greatly, and TMPG 2-pass is getting close to CCE in terms of quality. Oh yea, and CCE dosent cost $200, it costs $2000. I suggest looking around on Kazaa (hopefully I wont get in trouble for being so direct... ^^'). CCE also tends to have problems for a lot of people (myself included) so if you dont want the hassle TMPG works just as good IMO. But anyway hope that helped.

The CCE version you are talking about for 250 $ is the Lite Version which has only the CBR part no VBR. As i have Business i bougt CCE 2P 2.5 version. the multipass is far better than tempengc and faster. but if you are planing to buy CCE i would say you can live with tempengc.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, Checking out the Menu Creation guide on this site as we speak. Probably try it out after Midterms. Ive got mixed messages from to responses, or my comprehension skills are lacking. I downloaded the trial version of CCE2.50 and its very bare. Few options to set (unless their unavaliable until purchased) basically doesnt look like it has near the choices that TMPGEnc does.

I guess the only way to be sure is to try them out and see what looks better. Just kind of a pain in the ass when it takes 40 hours to create .bin/.cue files of a 2hour movie. Upgrading my PIII next week hopeing that will help.

Oh, what about Ulead movie factory? Any feed back on that.

I apologise for late respond, basicly i'm just posting to say that IMHO menus for me are a waste of time, cause I just like putting the movie in the player and playing it, I even get annoyed at the menus on the DVD, I miss the good old days where you put a VHS cassette in, press Play, FF to the movie and that's watch it from start to finish

The Complete Guide (All-In-One/Ultimate) has menus using TSCV, and it did work, i think it just requires patience.

How about setting the MPEG movie as the first sequence to play, then have the resturn button bring you to a menu for all the scene selection crap, then you get the best of both worlds.

While on the topic is it possible to change the audio track and subtitle settings using a "menu". Or does that have to be done manually with the remote ??

I don't have any dvd mpvie,I only rent them some times,,,but I can't hate more those stupid menus and waiting ,they force me to read the freaking warining note and you can't even forward the stupid thing,,,now if my wife is watching a dvd movie,then she want to finish the movie later,then I want to watch my movie,is just a stupid freaking system,,,the best that you can do is copy the dvd as vcd and start the movie faster without reading all that crap....when the first digitalVHS come out the dvd will be history....
