    Or ac3filter.

    Or try Subtitle Edit.

installed both ffdshow and ac3filter and it didn't help
maybe I shouldn't have installed them both or do something with these programs or subtitle workshop configuration that I don't know
    thanks again

yes I tried external previews: kmplayer, mpc, vlc and it didn't help either.
but I hear the sound with no problems with video players, the problem is when I tried to add subtitle with subtitle workshop
only with subtitle workshop I can't here sound from mp4 files with ac-3 audio

  8. you're right,my fault
    I tested...
Subtitle Workshop (6.0b) really no audio on MP4 (when the audio AC3)
Why ? I have no idea...I tried everything (Codec Tweak Tool, ffdshow -adjust the audio decoder,etc...and etc...) not at all...
Also (for proper operation Subtitle Workshop) only need to install Haali Media Splitter and ffdshow (nothing more is required).
Video renderer you can put (VMR9).
    Further...
MKV and AVI (even VOB) "nice open" (when the audio AC3)...why will not "withdraw" ffdshow (audio decoder) on MP4 ? I really do not know...
Only solution : remux MP4 to MKV with MKVToolnix, then fix subtitles with Subtitle Workshop etc.
or use Subtitle Edit (as colleagues have recommended),greeting...

    thank you
converting mp4 to mkv (like any converting) will damage quality of the HD mp4 files I was talking about.
I sent a mail to subtitle workshop support and didn't get an answer.
Maybe a better way will be to convert audio to AAC, if I only knew how.
Is format factory good enough for changing the audio?

No. You wont lose quality when using Mkvtoolnixgui to change to mkv. It will ONLY remux/change container to mkv and not reconvert any video/audio.

thanks. I trust you, and I already upgraded MKVToolnix.
But I thing converting just the audio from AC3 to AAC with format factory is also a good idea (though converting the audio must be done with careful attention to parameters)
