Has anyone ever figured out what's up with those DivX AVI's that show the audio format as: Unknown (tag 2000) - like when you check the file information from VirtualDub?

I've seen reference too it, but no posts at all about what codec this is, and how to extract this audio from an AVI. VirtualDub can't do it.

Has anyone ever tried to change the tag with one of those tag editors?

When it's talking about tag, I assume this is the fourcc? Just out of curiousity, what is the fourcc for Dolby (AC3) audio? I'm thinking it's really AC3, but the tag is wrong.. maybe it was created with a crappy encoder... just guessing.

Must be AC3 or OGG... I followed the instructions below, and can now open audio in TMPGEnc.. but not sure why virtualdub can't open? What's DirectShow Multimedia File Reader? What's the fourcc code for ac3 and ogg audio?

Convert DivX with AC3 or OGG Audio
Install first an AC3 audio decoder or OGG Audio Codec if you haven't done that, Nimo Codec Pack includes both or/and you could install WinDVD that also includes a AC3 Decoder. You should be able to play the DivX with AC3 or OGG with Windows Media Player.
Launch TMPGenc v2.52 or higher and before opening the video you need to change the priority of the directshow reader, under under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2. Now open the video and the audio should be automatically be opened. If this do not work try this method.

You mean this post: http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=87701&highlight=solved? I posted above that I solved this already using another tool, so I thought you were answering the additional questions I asked... about Directshow and the fourcc codes.
