My intention is to upscale an anime series using the powerful upscaling algorythm waifu2x. The source video is an anime h264 episode of 960x720 and I would like to get an output of 1440x1080 with small denoising.

MaverickTse made a compilation of all the known versions of waifu2x and it's ports and optimitzations on this thread:

However, after trying several times I haven't accomplished nothing but crashes. I would like to get some guidance about what I have to install and how, beginning from scratch (without AviUtl nor waifu2x versions installed), to get it working on Windows as fastest as possible. I have an Intel cpu and nvidia GPU, so it would be great if I could get use of the CUDA optimitzation.

  2. Since waifu2x-w2xc seems not working(crashing), the alternative path is:

    1) convert the video to image sequence with FFmpeg
    2) Convert the image sequence with waifu2x-caffe, getting a new sequence of images
    3) combine the new image sequence back to video stream
    4) mux with audio stream

In this way, you don't need AviUtl or Vapoursynth, just FFmpeg and waifu2x-caffe

I installed the initial release of waifu2x-caffe, and when I try to run waifu2x-caffe-cui.exe, it crashes. It appears to be a known issue that is fixed on the later versions, but I don't know how to update it.

  4. waifu2x-caffe can be DL from the RELEASE page as a full package:

I have GTX970 OC also and it works on my machine. Note that if your source image is too large, it can increase chance of crashing.
