Out of sync sound

On most every divx .avi file I play, the sound is out of sink. I downloaded the free DiVX player (it's 2.0 alpha from the 5.01 package) which people said would correct the problem, but it hasn't. I'm running a Win2K system. Is there something else I can try?

I have had similar problems with the sound of my avi movies,not just divx... or alternatively, the problem might be that the video might be playing at a faster speed than normal, which is more my problem. If any one has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
