Renaming MP4 to MPEG

Hi guys,

I have this Sony Blu-ray player that won't display files that have "MP4" extension through DLNA, Unless I rename the file to "MPEG". The files play perfectly on both the player and phone after renaming.
My question is, if I rename it back to MP4, will it stay a true MP4 standard or it would get modified?

Yes.

It is more critical what codecs are present in the mp4 file which is just a container format. My guess is that these are actually mpeg2 files mis-named in the first place.

Post a mediainfo (text mode) report of one for more clarification.
