I have encoded a webm video with ffmpeg which contains subtitles. When I play it on a player, it can display and select the subtitles, similar to srt subs in mkv. And the webm plays in supported browsers, but there are no subtitles. I guess some kind of javascript is required to display these subtitles in browser?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

I think you have to add external subtitles. See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Apps/Build/Audio_and_video_delivery/Adding_caption...to_HTML5_video
