    what is a decent program that is as good if not better than convertxtodvd?

    Use the HC encoder that comes with the program, and use a two pass encode. This combination should provide slightly better visual quality than anything else you can name in an all-in-one conversion program to DVD-video. You can make a DVD with a menu or without in AVStoDVD, but the menus will not be very elaborate.
