Hello, just wondering if someone with more experience than I could explain why I can get HEVC (H265) video to play on my main computer fine but only slow stuttering video and audio on my HPTC. I am using MPC-HC 64 bit player in both instances. Here are the computer specs:

    Main Computer
    Mobo: MSI 970A-G43
    CPU: AMD FX8350
    Mem: Cosair Vengeance 16gb
    GPU: EVGA GTX560-ti (1gb)

    HTPC
    Mobo: MSI A78M-E35
    CPU: AMD A6 6400K
    Mem: Adata XPG 4 gb
    GPU: PNY GTX750ti oc (2gb)

Could it be that he this media player is reliant heavily on the CPU and since my main computer has a much better CPU it has no problems?

Try first with another player like VLC Media player(built in decoders) and see if it stutters.

Then check the CPU Usage under the Task manager->Perfomance and see if hits 100%.

There is no H.265 hardware acceleration available with either of those CPUs or video adapters. This means the CPU has to do the decoding via software, so the more powerful CPU will do a better job. ...but check the CPU usage as Baldrick suggests.

  4. As Baldrick's said - check CPU usage. Your CPUs are a bit different - octo core vs dual core. It might be (but it hasn't to be) the problem. There is a lot that happens between hardware and software - better/worse implementation of codecs and players, even varying between versions plus parameters/quality of a video file.

Can you tell us what version of MPC-HC do you use, what codecs/filters and video renderers are used by the player and some info about video (MediaInfo)?

Read this thread: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/374219-Poor-performance-with-HEVC-on-fast-computer and my post about Strongene Lentoid HEVC Decoder. Its website seems to be down at the moment (hopefully 'cos they're adding a new version ) , but luckily it was archived and the link to the decoder is today:
    http://wayback.archive.org/web/20160120213000/http://www.xhevc.com/resource/Strongene_...2_02_r4644.zip

Edit: Or paste http://xhevc.com/en/downloads/downloadCenter.jsp or http://www.xhevc.com/resource/Strongene_Lentoid_HEVC_Decoder_v2.1.0.2_2015_12_02_r4644.zip here: https://archive.org/

I've just checked portable MPC-HC version 1.7.10.86 x64 nightly with internal LAV Filters 0.67.0.62 dev. Lentoid HEVC decoder and VMR9 (renderless) or EVR (CP) or madVR - Sintel video is stuttering, but for example LAV video decoder and VMR9 (renderless) is OK. So try to check different combinations of codecs and renderers. When changing renderers you will be shown what features you gain/lose (DXVA for example). After each change do Apply - OK and restart MPC-HC.

P.S. It's good to re-try different codecs and players from time to time, 'cos they are constantly in development, so new versions may interact better or differently.

Thank you gentlemen. I think you've confirmed my suspicions. I'll try what you suggested and see what happens.
