  1. I have downloaded a video form the net which ends in mp3. It plays in Win Media Player for XP, but the format i snot recognized by Nero or TMPGEnc.

How do I get this to the correct format?

  2. Try changing the file extension to .mpg and see how it works (they may have changed it to .mp3 for some reason or another). There's no guarantee it's an mpeg-1 or mpeg-2; it might be an AVI (can't tell without seeing it).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

yea, ive seen this before, people used to change the extensions so that they could be shared on napster (which only looked for .mp3 extensions). Im with Mirror_Image on this one.... either .mpg or .avi

  4. If you have trouble renaming the file extention, such as it renames as "file.mpg.mp3", then try renaming it in DOS. Move the file (or a copy of it) to the C: drive (your main hard drive). Then, open up MS-DOS prompt and type in cd\ at the C:/WINDOWS prompt. This should take you to just a C:/ prompt, where you will type in "dir" (without the quotation marks) . This will show all the contents of the C:/ directory, including the Mp3 file. Then type in "ren filename.mp3 filename.mpg" (Once again, no quotation marks, and substitute the DOS name for the file where it says "filename"). I would recommend that you try this with a copy of the file first, so that if you mess up, you don't have to redownload.
