For Xmedia Recode, what exactly is that "Default" button (in "Video" tab) doing? I thought it should make my current settings default, but... nothing seemed to happen after I pressed the button.
And the additional question is: how to set my favorite video/audio settings to be default? When I open a new file, the program always starts with the same audio/video settings, how to change them?

If I click Default it changes back some video settings. But not all.
I think you have to manually save the settings and then opening them if you want all settings restored. You could also create a custom preset with video encoding settings.
But the GUI is a often a bit buggy so you usually have to double check the settings...
