  1. Hello I'm new here and new to video converting, I've downloaded a Japanese animation mkv file that was a direct blu-ray rip and I was thinking of compressing it so I could put the video on my Playstation...

As I was about to convert I noticed the HandBrake window at the 'source' section I saw that the duration was 20 minutes but the actual video was 23 minutes long. Thinking it could be a bug or some sorts I convert it anyway. Once the file is complete, I was shocked that it really was only 20 minutes long so I check the video and found out that the video and audio had been cut off at the opening and ending scenes so basically it's an episode without any opening or ending parts. Also the opening segments are at the middle of the video so I've really no idea how this happens. hahaha.

If it is possible can any professionals explain to me what is the cause of this because I have no problems converting other videos that has an opening and ending parts and I've ripped my own blu-ray disc with no problems. Thank you ^.^

P.S If anyone needs some pictures or something like that please just tell me and I'll take some screenshots

You could try latest handbrake nightly https://handbrake.fr/nightly.php or latest vidcoder beta (based on handbrake) and see if it's works better.

Or the mkv maybe contains some special parts. Check it with mediainfo and see if it reports the running time correct.

  3. The mkv file probably uses "Ordered Chapters". Players like MPC-HC and VLC support that but the vast majority of conversion softwares do not.

mpv can convert it but it's more of a player and converting does take intermediate/expert knowledge. There's a pre-made script out there, maybe that suits your needs. Just drag&drop the file you want to convert onto e.g. the "autohardsubber.bat" script.
