Just did a quick check on this and..

    Pseudo streaming allows random seeking.

This is the biggest difference between the two.

    Referencing:
    1. flash.flowplayer.org/plugins/streaming/pseudostreaming.html
    2. searchvirtualdesktop.techtarget.com/definition/Real-Time-Streaming-Protocol-RTSP

    Hope this helped.

  3. So if the video has to load all the way before it plays, then that means it's real streaming?

But provided you loaded all of the file you can still seek random points right? In real streaming?

Is there a way to be 100% sure?

Real time is fairly close if no different to live streaming.
I need an example to confirm this.
    Can you get one?

what are you talking about ?
    sounds like gibberish
a Dl is a complete file, it means it buffered some place in your browser cache
streaming, is sent just ahead of display, streaming is often sent in segments
    never heard of Pseudo streaming

No such thing as psuedo streaming, any video needs to stream to play over the internet or just from your computer to a ps3 over a lan.

Nothing to do with psuedo streaming, just downloading a video compared to a streaming video where as a downloading video can be viewed as streaming at a point.

    http://cdnsun.com/knowledgebase/cdn-video/differences-between-true-streaming-and-pseudo-streaming

This is a site that tries to tell the difference but it still left me confused as to how can I tell which one is which from a viewer's standpoint.

The site is favouring pseudo testing more so I too feel a little off.

I know there's that saying that one trusts what's on the internet and here's one perfect example that kinda forces us to adhere to what info's been displayed. I am doing a couple of searches and there's no direct response [like this].

More info is yet to surface about this issue and that's the conclusion I've come up with.

All sites referenced here are probably the best gathering of this than any.

Some tips how a viewer can find out if it is pseudo or true streaming:

    - look into player source code and look if there is a query string parameter defined (startparam, etc), if so then it is pseudo streaming.

    - look into firebug network tab, if the stream is not HTTP (for example RTMP) then it is true streaming.

    - look into firebug network tab and then seek the video to not yet downloaded part - if it is pseudo streaming then you will see on the network tab something like: http://pseudo-streaming-test.cdnXXX.com/blenders-big-buck-bunny.mp4?start=410, notice the ?start=410 (it is the seek request to the server) if you will not see anything like that then it is true streaming

The last tip is I belive an ultimate answer
