I have downloaded a YouTube video onto my PC as a MP4 (video). I have then burnt the video from the PC's hard drive onto a Verbatim +RW DVD. When I then insert this DVD into my LG RH399H player / recorder, it does not recognize or accept the disk. What do I need to do to get the LG DVD player to accept and play the DVD containing the MP4 video? My software on the PC is Windows 8.1

  2. Author it with AVStoDVD.

(Perhaps check what video formats is supported on USB)

Drag and drop it to a USB stick and play that?
"MP4" is a container. What kind of video and audio(called codecs) are inside this container?
Convert (author) a real DVD and try that.
You can't just burn stuff to a DVD and call it a "DVD".

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to try to assist me. I am a 71 year old retiree, and NOT an IT boff so please excuse my layman's answers.

    > My LG RH399H DVD player / recorder can play MP3/WMA/JPEG/DivX files in the USB flash drive according to the manual.

    > I copied my MP4 (video) onto a flash drive and plugged it into the DVD player. It recognized photos I had on the flash drive, but not the video.

    > Sorry but not being an IT boffin, I don't know what you are advising me to do when you say "Author it with AVStoDVD". Please could you expand on this?

    > The MP4 (video) plays beautifully on my desktop PC. Np problem at all.

I look forward to hopefully receiving further advice and assistance from you.
Step 1: Download an install AVStoDVD

Step 2: Drag-drop your mp4 file onto AVStoDVD

Step 3: Select ISO UDF image as output and press the Start button

Step 4: Burn this ISO image as you previously burnt the mp4 file

    In layman's terms
The player will play DivX but not mp4
    It's like English versus French
Your player understand the first Not the second
You can convert the file to DivX or you can convert/author it to DVD format
The process of creating a DVD format IS called authoring, why ? I don't know

  6. An update to my previous post.

If you are going to use AVStoDVD you need to also install the burner program ImgBurn. It used to be a part of the AVStoDVD installer package but that's no longer the case.

However the latest versions of ImgBurn comes with adware but if you follow the link to ImgBurn you'll find an option to install version 2.4.4.0 which is adfree.

Hi Videobruger and thanks for detailing a step by step procedure for me to follow.

Before I go down the route you recommend, I would just like to summarize where I stand at this moment if you will indulge me.

During the process of trying to get a video from YouTube to my DVD player as per the details I have previously communicated, when it came to burning the MP4 (video) from my PC's C-drive to a Verbatim +RW DVD disk, I did the following:

    1) I first copied the video from its folder under “This PC” sub-heading “Video” on the C-drive, to the DVD disk in drive D i.e. DVD RW Drive (D LG_VDR

    2) I then right clicked in a free space on the Drive D window which now showed “Files Ready to be Written to the Disc (1)” and listed the video I had just copied there.

    3) The drop down menu listed one of the available options as “Burn to Disc” which I duly selected.

    4) The next window entitled “Prepare the Disc” presented the options of “Disc Title” and “Recording Speed”

    5) If the DVD disc I presented had been initialized by the LG DVD Player, the next window indicated that there was no space available.

    6) If I first formatted the disk on the PC, then space became available and the burning process took place.

NB: I don’t know which software did the burning as this was not indicated at all during the above.

However I can report that I recently upgraded my desktop PC hardware and software with the assistance of a local IT specialist. I have a Lenovo F0B4 PC with the following processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U CPU @ 1.7GHz. The operating system is Windows 8.1 complemented by Office 2007.

I have noticed on my desktop that the following software is also loaded on the PC namely CD Burner XP. One of the options it offers is to create a video DVD for use on a DVD player, but I doubt whether it was enlisted to do the burning I refer to above.

Equipped with all this more detailed background information, does this

    (a) alter your assessment of my problem in any way? and

    (b) if I go down the route you have detailed for me, do you think the CD Burner XP software could do the job that you recommend ImgBurn for?
    (a) Only since ImgBurn will be installed anyway in step 3 select "Burn DVD" as output instead of "ISO UDF image"

    (b) CD Burner XP can't replace ImgBurn in this respect.

    Some details:

    1. When downloading ImgBurn use this option

    2. When adding your MP4 to AVStoDVD you migth be presented with something like this. Just following the recommendation

    Hi Videobruger,

Further to our previous communication, I had to travel away from home for a week to attend to some urgent issues and only got back yesterday. That is why no progress was made with my project.

Today I downloaded AVStoDVD and ImgBurn onto my PC, and then produced a DVD from the 40 minute MP4 video I had downloaded from YouTube, on a +RW DVD disc.

This DVD now plays perfectly on my LG DVD player / recorder. Thanks, your advice worked exactly as you said it would.

However, I now want to copy the 40 minute video from the DVD disc onto the recorder’s hard disc drive, and am unable to do so. When I access the DVD on the recorder’s control panel, the 40 minute video starts playing immediately, and when I press the record button on the recorder, nothing happens?

Surely one would expect the recorder to show the title recorded on the DVD disc first before one then clicks on the Play button?

So I am back cap in hand asking whether you perhaps have further advice for me to get the video onto the recorder’s HDD? I want to do this so that I can edit it, and then copy it with one or two other videos onto another DVD disc.

I am looking forward to receiving your kind suggestions.

These recorders won't copy DVD to the hard drive, can't be done
It's part of the industry DRM protections
The record function is for the input tuner signal
Just edit or combine your videos on the pc and create a DVD of the combined videos

Thank you for these comments Theewizard. Just a thought. Can one use AVStoDVD and ImgBurn to copy (burn?) the MP4 video from the PC's C-drive onto a usb flash drive (memory stick) in such a way that it will be possible to transfer the video to the LG RH399H player / recorder?

not that i know about..! don't think it is possible

the things, are mfg, to play files from USB or to play DVD

and ONLY record from the tuner

NO way to transfer a file to the internal hard drive

besides, you can do a much easier and better job of editing, on a pc using mouse and keyboard than a recorder using a remote and on screen menus

As I have stated before in this thread, I am a senior citizen and not an IT expert. Are you able to give me some instructions / guidelines on how to edit, add titles, join together etc videos on my PC? I use Windows 8.1 as my operating system. Many thanks.
