Please somebody give me some insight. I have posted on different occasions seeking answers from those with knowledge, but have not been able to get a single response yet. My original problem was a movie file which i would burn, then play on my standalone DVD player. The original version would play for 40 seconds, then the audio and video would freeze. The dvd player sounded like it was trying to re-read the disc again like it does when you first put it in. It would do this, then stop, then start again. The movie would never restart. I was given the advice to re-encode and re-burn the file. I did this, and the file would play this time until the 9 minute mark where it did the exact same thing. Somebody thought that it was a dvd player problem, but this could not be since I used the EXACT same method for a different movie which turned out perfect with no problems. I figured it was a corrupt file so gave up on it. My problem this time, is that I tried it on a completely different movie, but the same thing occurs now somewhere around the 14 minute mark. I am confused since this method worked for the other VCD which plays without fault. To make the file, I ran the .avi through virtual dub to extract the sound into a .wav, encoded it through tmpgenc using the Pal template, and then trying the NTSC template (both gave the same problem), authored the file using VCDeasy to get a .bin and .cue file, then burned it using CDRWIN. I have to do this since I have an external plug and play burner (hp 8200) which does not seem to be supported by any other program I have tried (something about plug and play not being supported). I also tried encoding in VCD 2.0 and VCD 1.0 versions to see if this would make a difference. Please, somebody give some insight, this is driving me absolutely ******* nuts.
PS: The original file was 300mb in .avi form, and the most recent failure was 685mb in .avi.

From what you are saying it does not sound like you are doing anything wrong, so I suggest if you can, take those "failed" movies, and try playing them back on something like a Pioneer or Apex DVD Players, and see how they accept it.
If they don't accept it, there might be something REALLY bad with the media, if they do accept it, then your DVD Player is not accepting that media very well and it's causing problems in the reading.Email me for faster replies!

I'd definitely look at the media, make sure it's a good brand and I'd suggest recording at a slower speed. Personally I get the best results recording at only 2x, I know others can burn faster but thats my experience.

I am already trying to use HP "high quality media" disks, certified especially for my brand of burner. They are supposed to work very well. And I was recording at only 1x speed. I just don't get how two completely different movies, have the exact same problem, while the other works perfectly. Not to mention the fact that the two files play fine on my computer. So i dont' know why the file that does work, created using the exact same method works without flaw..

Keep in mind just because a DVD player says it will play a VCD, that does not mean it will play a Home made VCD, just the pro stamped ones you can buy, try your VCD's on 3-4 different DVD players to see if you get the same problem.

I have tried 3 different dvd players, all different brands to make sure, a toshiba, an apex, and a sony, all freeze at the same spot. The .mpg file from which this orginates has no problems whatsoever, so I am still confused. Anybody have any other ideas? I'm thinking now that it is possibly the burning and authoring softwares that are faulty with my burner. Do you know any other burning softwares that are compliant with plug and play burners? and any other authoring softwares other than vcdeasy or nero??

I use NTI cd-maker and have'nt yet burned a coaster,also look into
Veritas RecordNow Max.Make sure you have the latest drivers:

I would say check the media. and maybe try getting nero. i found nero very easy since it can encode any file t VCD format.

ANOTHER FAILURE. Tried burning again, but even tried different software to test make sure. Used VCDimagerGUI for encoding, then fireburner one time, and nero the next. Fireburner ejected after 38% completion because of some error, nero said "burning" for about 4 seconds, before it would say disc completed and eject the disc, I double checked my settings and they were all right. Everybody keeps saying to check the media!! What do I run it through to check it? Any other opinions?
