Importing Dolby True HD onto Audacity

Is it possible to import a Dolby True HD track onto Audacity and converting it to Dolby AC3 5.1?

I have tried it directly and then just the audio track as Raw data, but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm not sure if TrueHD is supported or not, but have you tried the ffmpeg source plugin for Audacity?

No such luck. I tried first with the one I had, Audacity 2.0.5 and its ffmpeg 0.6.2. Then installed Audacity 2.1.1 and ffmpeg 2.2.2.

Same problem with both: doesn't recognize the mkv file or the demuxed audio file.

Audacity opened your file, but it's not opening mine.

Is there any other program I can try?

Aside from audacity, there a tons of tools which should be able to convert TrueHD to AC3, btw. TrueHD normally comes with a ac3-core, but mkv doesn't support that and thus the core is removed.
most basic tool to convert TureHD to ac3 is probably ffmpeg, but most video converting tools should also be able to do what you want.

I installed ffmpeg separately from Audacity. How can I use it for the conversion?

In the meantime, and for this file, I'm using Vidcoder to convert the whole mkv file, the AC3 included.

That's a pretty long path though.

calling:

ffmpeg -i "path to input mkv" -c:v copy -c:a ac3 -b:a 384k "path to output mkv"

should convert the audio to ac3,...
(doesn't vidcoder support video passthrough ?)
