  1. I am going to get the Walmart Ematic AT103B Digital Converter Box (under $30). It is difficult to get reliable information about this box, so I figured I would just test it and return it if I didn't like it. One thing, the output format of the on-air recorded videos might be .ts, or maybe .mp4, I don't know. But I imagine the output size would be big (bit rate and resolution) and I would want to re-encode to make these parameters smaller (like 640x360 and bit rate that is about 700mb for one hour of video). I am not interested in cutting out ads. I want to convert to mp4 (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC). Somebody said VideoReDo would be good for this kind of re-encoding (because it deals with so called "dropped frames"), but when I tried to input a test mp4 into a Dec 2014 copy (version 5.1.1.719) of VideoReDo, the software said it doesn't support inputting mp4. Question: how can this be? How can such expensive software not allow to input mp4? Are there other alternatives to VideoReDo that will do what I want?

You got it backward, started on the wrong end of the process
If you do , as you say you have planned
The initial recording will be a .mts file
You should fix the mts file before covering down and into mp4
Video redo is perfect for ts mts mpeg files
    Import recording
    Fix recording..output new file
Now recode/convert , changing resolution and container format
Unless changes have been made redo is Not an mp4 editor
    It is a ts editor
