Guys, I have a wmv video, witch upon loading into VirtualDub crash it on the ffmpeg module (video decoder = preview problem):

The problem is "fixable" when I run VFW config of ffdshow:
    rundll32.exe ff_vfw.dll,configureVFW
...and set the VC-1 decoder from libavcodec to wmv9 decoder. However that was I lose the video and even reencoding it did not help at all - the video encoded just encode the msg "Missing codec" and that it is.

So I tried some wmv video fixer programs. The ASF-VI-RM-WMV Repair v1.82 crashed. The AsfBin v1.8.2 produced nice out.asf video, witch crash VD again.

It is possible to convert the video thru ffmpeg into avi, then things works in VD, but audio sync is grossly off. The video using crazy 59.940fps rate and I don't know what to do with it to fix the nasty error. Yes, ffmpeg say that "[avi @ 032da560] Non-monotonous DTS in output stream 0:0; previous: 24746, current: 24746; changing to 24747. This may result in incorrect timestamps in the output file."

But I did not want ANY timestamps, I just want working (both by playing - that works and in VD - that crash) file.

    Any suggestions?

    File : x.wmv
Format : Windows Media at 3 110 Kbps
    Codec : VC-1 at 3 000 Kbps
    Resolution : 1280 x 720 (1.778) at 59.940 fps
Audio : WMA at 96.0 Kbps
    Bitrate : 2 channels, 44.1 KHz

  3. Try using a different source filter in VirtualDub using the pulldown at the bottom of the Open Video File dialog. The WMV, ffmpeg, and DirectShow source plugins should all be able to read WMV files. Download and install them if you don't have them.

It looks like you have a VERY-BAD .asf file.

By very-bad, I mean variable framerate plus an audio stream full of "gaps".

My suggestion: create an Avisynth script (with FFAudioSource && FFVideoSource), and then give it to VirtualDub.
