I've been using mpg2cut2 to cut clips out of a large mpeg file which is really just a vob renamed as mpeg. Most of them work fine, but a few get stuck when I upload them to youtube where it just shows a "processing" progress bar stuck at a point it can never get past. I read about some piece of software that can clean up the output from mpg2cut2, so perhaps I should be using that, but can't now find the thread that was mentioned in. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what that program might be, or some other way of getting it to work (perhaps by converting to another video format before uploading to youtube).

Background information: I'm taking the video from DVD's with faulty directories which prevent most software from accessing them, so I'm having to extract the vobs manually from disk images using a hex editor, then I save them as .mpeg and cut clips out of them using mpg2cut2. Most clips from the start and end of the vobs work fine, as do clips taken from in between, so it's just random ones that cause trouble. What I need is something that can read the files as well as VLC does, but which can then correct any faults to enable them to play on more fussy players (and thereby also be converted by fussy converters).

  2. You might first try by not renaming VOBs as MPGs. MPEG2CUT2 opens VOB files.

If that doesn't do it you might try cutting in DGIndex which works similarly to MPEG2Cut2. Except when you go File->Save Project and Demux Video you'll get separate audio and video files. Remux them with ImagoMPEG-Muxer. With any luck the two different processes will straighten out any problems with the files.

...perhaps by converting to another video format before uploading to youtube...
    Or reencode to MP4.

    Thanks manono,

Demuxing and remuxing has just worked for what I hope is the worst clip - it still put up a bit of a fight during the processing stage after uploading to youtube, getting stuck twice, but it got through each barrier (after a few seconds for the first where it previously stuck for hours on multiple attempts, and a few minutes for the second). With any luck this will work for the other awkward clips too, though time will tell. Thanks again - those are super tools.
