Media choice DVD +R or -R

After a suggestion on another thread I am going to but some DVD-9 discs

I have always bought DVD-5 discs as DVD-r

Is there any reason to choose DVD-r or DVD+r in 8.5GB size ...... is either format better supported across most DVD players?
There is certainly a lot more of the DVD+r on sale.

Buy +R DL DVD's. The +R discs are superior, though you have to buy the right kind. The only +R DL discs that are widely available I would recommend are the Verbatim AZO variety. Here is an example at Amazon.

FTI/Falcon also make DL +R discs using the same 2P process that Verbatim does, and they make a lot of the discs sold under the Verbatim brand, but it is much harder to find the FTI discs. The Verbatim discs should be easy to locate.

Yes, "+" is superior - better burns, better on sessions, and this applies to RW as well, etc. It came later than "-", hence the enhancements.

You did ask about being supported though, so therein lies the (really only) advantage of "-" because it came before "+". It is indeed the common denominator of compatibility of all discs in this regard. Any unit that runs "+" will run "-", but not (theoretically) vice versa.

However, this advantage is now less and less relevant. If this was like ten years ago, say like in 2005, I would much more recommend "-" because of this.

-R Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden for single layer.....+R for dual layer(Verbatim) simply because there really is no other choice for D/L except +R
