Hi, I've noticed that it can be quite a jungle when picking the right software.
I've got just couple of criteria:
1: do cuts
2: export at sources resolution
That's all. The problem I found is that you're often boxed into a ratio resolution, 4:3 and so on, which compresses and changes the the image quality.
The formats that I'm importing are, vob, mp4, avi, wmv, flv. The export can be what ever, but preferably mp4.
I love using HandBreak, but it does not support splitting, so i need something that does.
Considering the low amount of criteria there should be a free or cheap alternative.
Oh, and I have tried Lightworks and Wondershare Filmora, both does not support source resolution output.

Thanks, Ill give it a try.
Also after trying VirtualDub i stumbled upon Avidemux, which is based on VirtualDub.
I must say that Avidemux is really good, but you need to know the basics of audio/video encodings.
