  1. Every time I encode a 720x480 DVD vob to MKV oR MP4 in XviD4PSP, the encoded size of the vid is 720x536. I tried changing the encoding codec to "Copy" but what it outputs is completely unusable (tiny video with same file size.)

Does anyone know how to set the encoding options for MP4 or MKV so the output is the same size as the source?

    Thanks,

    KD

I guess it crops the black borders automatically.

If you just want to copy the video use MakeMKV instead.

If you want to convert/shrink then try instead vidcoder or handbrake. Disable the auto cropping under the video tab.

    Baldrick,

I should've specified that I' need to hardcode .ass subs to it as well.

    Any ideas?

It does tend to remove the black bars for me, too. But copy shouldn't be changing anything; maybe there's something wrong in your setup or settings. Have you checked what it's doing by opening Video on the top toolbar and then Resolution/Aspect? (This doesn't apply in Copy mode.)

What version are you using? 5.0.xxx?

But yep check the resolution/aspect from the menu.
