    This could be done with a decent video editor that has multiple video track support. Each image should be stacked one on top of the other (and each image having a transparent background) and the background image needs to be on the bottom of the stack. The start of each image needs to be offset from the previous image so that the images pop onto the screen one at a time. Similarly, the ends need to be adjusted so that each image pops off of the screen. Sound effects need to be added at the points where the images pop on and off.

    Here is a screenshot of my Premiere timeline. The Color Matte is the background and the Rose.png files are the images that pop on and off the screen. I did not add sound effects, but they could be on one audio track if they do not overlap.
