iMovie help needed

Hi I'm trying to cut songs from an dvdfilm I've ripped with handbrake. The original format is letterbox 4:3. When i cut and save clips from that file
it forces the letterbox format into a widescreen file. The video is still 4:3 Letterbox but when i watch in fullscreen its surrounded with black borders.
Anyone know if its possible to save clips with imovie and still have the original format? Im using version 10.0.9 iMovie.

I Figured it out.

It never hurts to tell other Mac users what you have discovered. It might save them from the same problem.

I did it wrong from the beginning. I selected the frames i wanted in my new clip and copied to a new window and then saved. If i saved the selection directly from the main video file it gets saved in its original aspect ratio.
