I have an .AVI file that I created using the Canopus ADVC110. There is excess footage at the end of the video that needs to be cut off. I don't want the entire video re-encoded just the part that I cut off.
I am using Virtual Dub in full processing mode with smart rendering enabled. I am able to select the keyframes to delete and cut them out. But, when I try to "save as AVI" I get this error message...
Can't initialize smart rendering: No video codec selected for compression
So I go to compression but I can't select the DV-AVI codec because it is not available. How do I install this codec so it can be accessed from Virtual Dub?

Use video=> direct stream copy ; not full processing mode or smart rendering
Mark in/out the section that you want to keep (inclusion), and it will stream copy the segment (you're not really cutting "off" the end part, you're actually copying the beginning part to a new file) -
Thanks! When I copy this way -- will the video be re-encoded and possibly loose some quality? I'm new to all of this so just wondering.

No quality loss, no re-encoding. Notice the compression menu is greyed out when you have direct stream copy selected

"Direct Stream Copy" means copy the compressed data without decompressing and recompressing it.
