    You must use the SSA or ASS subtitle formats.

    Then you frameserve the original video through Avisynth, and call the TextSub() filter for displaying the "top" titles and the "sub" titles at the same time.

  3. I don't think the black bars were part of the original video so he wants to both add the black as well as add the subs. Again, as El Heggunte mentions, AviSynth. The AddBorders command adds the black bars before then using the TextSub filter to add the subs. Maybe there are other ways as well, but this is how I'd do it.

    Just to add a little extra info... If you want that size font, the easiest way to adjust the size is adjust the PlayResY setting in the SSA file. The following 436x234 video shows settings of 240 and 480 for PlayResY.
