Wireless headphones to TV with different input/output connections.

I'm looking to buy the Sennheiser 120 wireless headphones to watch with the TV. The problem is, the headphone transmitter has an analog input connection( RCA/3.5mm headphone jack) while the TV has a digital output(optical).

So, it looks like I would need an adapter. I was thinking about these two:

I would prefer the analog-to-digital adapter to convert the headphone transmitter into an optical input connection for the TV. But, will it work and will I get a digital transmission?

If it will work but won't get a digital transmission, should I just buy the other adapter?

The headphone transmitter can't be used to provide an optical input for the TV, so the analog to digital converter won't help you.

If you don't have one, you will need a Toslink cable to connect the digital to analog converter to the TV. You also need to ensure that the TV's optical digital output provides linear PCM stereo audio. These little converters are incapable of decoding other types of digital audio.

Yes, look through the owner's manual and settings for subjects related to digital audio output, or SPDIF. It is helpful to have a PDF version of the manual when you need to look for information. (PDF manuals are often available from the manufacturer's product page or support site.) Most TVs and the digital audio sources connected to them by HDMI (DVD player, Blu-ray player, cable box, etc.) can be set up to output LPCM.

The above converter is the same kind of product as the Portta digital to analog audio converter from Amazon. It doesn't convert other digital audio formats to LPCM. You would use a receiver of some sort to do such a conversion, but I don't think that will be necessary.

Using a Bluetooth transmitter will leave you with the same issue as a pair of dedicated wireless headphones, though. If you're not using another 3.5mm output device, like a sound bar, you may have to disconnect the Bluetooth transmitter from the 3.5mm or RCA jacks to restore volume to the television's internal speakers.
