    Hello!

I have many DVDs that i plan to convert to mkv. I have worked on a few and have noticed something strange. For a few of my videos, after converting using Handbrake I get occasional glitches in the video (like a twitch or "pop" in the video), and it is very noticeable. For those same videos, after converting using Freemake they turn out very smooth.

I've tried tinkering with every setting I know of in Handbrake and cannot eliminate those "glitches". I suspect the video I am converting may have some issues in the source that Handbrake is pickier about than Freemake (since all DVD were recorded on the same DVD recorder about 8-10 years ago).

    Would anyone have any thoughts?

As a note, I tried an online converter for the heck of it and there were no "glitches" in those videos.

If you run into a scratched or marginal looking DVD, try cleaning it and then ripping it to one of your hard drives first and running Handbrake from the ripped video file.

I use VidCoder which is a front-end for handbrake and makes it a bit easier to use, especially for batch encodes.
I've never had any 'glitches' using Handbrake or VidCoder on unscratched DVDs.

    Hi! Thanks for the reply

However, the DVDs I have are all in really nice shape so I don't believe that is the issue.

You might take a look at one of the VOBs on the problem DVDs with MediaInfo and compare that to a VOB from a DVD that converted correctly.
Maybe something in the settings that Handbrake chokes on?
