It would appear that nothing else can decrypt this AACS(?) nonsense on newer BDs. I hate to have to buy AnyDVD.

Blu-ray encryption is an intentionally changing, evolving target. Only those programs that continue to get updates handle it well. AnyDVD HD is generally regarded as the best for this, but DVDFab usually works well enough.

New releases, especially blockbuster movies, often cause issues, so you just have to wait til they find a solution, even when using AnyDVD HD.

Most people can get by using MakeMKV, though it will lag behind sometimes. It is free while in beta.

It's not blockbuster movies that concern me. It's titles I can't get in the US so I have to deal with bullshit region locks. I tried ripping the UK release of Sabotage (1996) with DVDFab, and the AnyDVD HD trial and neither worked. Can I even expect the paid version of AnyDVD to work on something like that or am I screwed? It pisses me off nobody does firmware hacks for BD players when the firmware updates can easily be downloaded to be installed via USB or burned disc. It's like people nowadays just want to make money off the hardware mods.

dvdfab will remove the region code sothe disc will be region free.
there are very few bluray players that can be region hacked.

the movie sabotage is available in the USA - http://www.dvdempire.com/1700226/sabotage-blu-ray-dvd-ultraviolet-blu-ray.html
I said 1996. The one with Marc Dacascos and Carrie Ann Moss, not Arnold. Goddamn duplicate titles. Nobody can come up with original movie names anymore.

  6. AnyDVDHD asks if I want set it region free, and I have set it in settings to Remove Blu-Ray region code automatic. But you can set it to Region A if that is where your BD is from and automatic region detection does not work, AND there is also a box for removing Country Code as well, if that is your issue.

  7. DVDFAB Passkey is usually a bit ahead of even their own dvdfab and ANYDVDHD (sorry if you might have missed the recent giveaway for passkey) Sometimes even this software needs more time for their workers to sort things out in given time. MakeMKV has been surprisingly successful yet if you want a true BD ISO from an MKV file with original chapters you would have to use MKVExtractGUI and the NEW tsMuxerGUI.

when you opened the disc with dvdfab, did it specify the region?? from what i found is you have to set the region
that is printed on the box/disc.

  9. Passkey will remove all known region codes even "on the fly" There will be NO region code when copied to Hard drive. When a region code is non descriptive on Cover/Label/Disk if all else fails try to set all regions 1 by one to decrypt. YES WHEN POSSIBLE SET THE REGION CODE IN SETTINGS.

It just immediately bitched the disc had AACS. Apparently, a recent update fixed that cause when I loaded it just now it forced an update and it's ripping, in spite of the fact I refused to reboot after install. What is this, 1995? Why the hell doesn't anyone write BD rippers/decryptors for linux? I hate having to keep windows around for 2 or 3 things linux can't do.

One of the Blu-Ray rippers mentioned in this thread can be used with Linux, MakeMKV. http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 Maybe it will work for some things that you want to decrypt.

[Edit]Oops... I did not check to see if someone already posted an answer.

One big point for Hollywood producers getting on the Bluray bandwagon in the first place was because it had updating encryption. So writing a ripper+decryptor for BDs is a never-ending moving target. That makes it viable as a project only for those who can devote the time & resources to (continual) programming. This means financial compensation is warranted and one needs to code for the largest customer base. Both of those things point away from FOSS Linux programs and toward apps like AnyDVD & DVDFab on Windows.
But if you think it's so trivial to do one, you ought to create one yourself.
