    Turn your tv/monitor on its side,seriously it has to be re-encoded,no way around that.

    You can rotate most video with avidemux.

    Load your video. From the 'video' menu select 'Filters'/'Transform'. You will then see the rotate option.

    You can then try 'Copy' for video and audio. Select your Output Format. That should leave bitrate alone but it will still re-encode due to the rotation.

    I've already explained in a previous post how to do this losslessly without re-encoding in QuickTime. It is quite doable. The problem is not in the editing/saving, it is in the player supporting the rotation flags.
