    Hi

    Kind of fussy! So keep a life jacket at hand, or a beer, may be — but just tested again: it worked, with "Yamb/MP4box"...

    Note · for me anyway, it did NOT work (at all!) using any .mp4 file with any ".idx + .sub" files: I had to use an .mp4 clip previously converted from a .VOB (MPEG-2 DVD) file...

    ... as the corresponding ".ifo" file was required!

    So:

    1. .VOB converted to .mp4, using "AviDemux" (in my case). To TEST, pick a lightweight .VOB file...

    2. The .ifo" file that comes with the original .VOB is needed.

    —— Keep all three (.VOB + .IFO + .mp4) files in one same folder. —–

    3. Also required: "VobSub" plug-in, in "VirtualDub" "plugins32" subfolder.

    Start "VirtualDub", no need to open any video; menu Video > Filters > Add, & double click "VobSub 2.23";

    on "Filter: VobSub" window, click Open button. Bottom of "Open" window (File types field), select "Ifo and Vobs for creating idx/sub (*.ifo)". Browse to the folder containing the 3 files and click the ".ifo";

    "VobSub" asks where to save the result: browse/indicate the SAME folder again.

    Next window, titled "Select PGC": just click OK for now (simple test). And let it convert, until it displays "Ready". Then, click OK button, and quit "VobSub" + "VirtualDub" (quit everything).

    4. Now, the folder contains two more files: the ".idx" + the ".sub".

    Start "Yamb/MP4box". Click 1st option (top: "MP4 creation..."). Drop the ".mp4" video, and the ".idx" file only, to "Yamb" window. Bottom ("Output" field), don't browse to another location, but modify the video file name you want:

    i. e., if you have C:\folder\test.mp4 modify to C:\folder\test_result.mp4 (or whatever DIFFERENT name than your original .mp4). And click "Next" button.

    · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·
    If it works, buy yourself a beer — plus one for me (Chinese "Tsing Tao", please). If it (still) does NOT work, do the same.

    I would be inclined to convert the IDX/SUB to SRT. Plenty of good tools to do that now with minimum editing.

    That's what I do mostly. Way simpler, lighter. And works quite well (except with very stubborn players).

    Now, ".idx + .sub" subtitles have certain advantages, over ".srt", one being: they can be "tweaked", in order to use them as TITLES * (instead of SUBtitles). There is also the ".ass" format, graphically more advanced than ".srt"...

    * I'm trying to concentrate on that, or rather: by using ".png" images, overlaid on ".mkv AVC H.264" video, here: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/375001-%5Bhow-to%5D-Overlay-image-title%28s%29-on-A...ding?p=2417007
