    Hi,

I have two mpeg videos which I'd like to join, DVD Patcher gives identical information for both framerate and aspect ratio, the only thing that appears to be different in each is the biterate - mpeg A displays in 4.3 Letterbox format while Mpeg B is just 4.3 with no letterboxing (no black bars top and bottom). As Mpeg B looks a little stretched, can anyone advice or point me to the right link or tell me what software I need and how to add 4.3 letterboxing this mpeg. Thanks.

Sounds like B is anamorphic 16:9. You cannot mix 4:3 (Letterboxed or not) with anamorphic 16:9 in the same Titleset on a DVD (assuming you intend to author a DVD)

Just author them in two different Titlesets and make the DVD play B right after A is finished.
If you absolutely need to put both in the same Titleset you have to re-encode one so that they have the same specs.

If all you need is an MPEG file for PC playback you can stitch them with Cuttermaran (for example) after demuxing audio and video. Most software players shouldn't have any problem with that.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure it is anamorphic 16:9 as DVDPatcher shows the size for both as 352x576, Aspect ratio: 4:3 I am actually wondering whether the bars appeared due to a setting on the TV or DVD recorder, - the second dvd was dubbed from and old Video and the recorder didn't letterbox it. I can mess with the settings and re record I suppose, but out of interest, is there a way of adding letterboxing to the second video i.e turning a 4:3 into 4:3 LB? (I've found lots of posts dealing wiith turning 4:3 LB to 16.9 WS, but not this particular encoding issue).

Yes, it's a simple matter if using AviSynth to AddBorders followed by a Resize. Of course the whole thing has to be reencoded.

There are some programs (MeGUI, for example) that use AviSynth scripts and allow you to edit the script to do what you want.
