I am creating slideshow/videoshow about a person's life. Want to add soft subtitles, which display peoples names. ie have the names of people which can be turned on or off depending on who happens to be watching the DVD.
The VSDC "text" object has a property called "mode" which can be set to either "treat as subtitles" or "simple text"

    Questions:
    1. When "treat as subtitles" is selected, the text is no longer visible in the editor. Is there another parameter which needs to be set to make the text visible when in editing mode?
    2. When the file is exported, no *.srt file is created. Is this because of *.srt files are only supported by certain video formats? (I note that VSDC is said to now support the creation of *.srt files)
    3. When text files are created within VSDC, it is easy to add video affects to the text object, but I presume these are ignored if the property "mode" is set to "treat as subtitles", as these properties are not defined within the *.srt file definitions that I have seen. Please advise what subtitle file types which are soft, can also have properties, such as fade in and fade out, specified.

Any help with regard to these questions would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Greg

Can you make a dvd with switchable subtitles using VSDC? I can't see it mentions subtitles at all at the site and changelog.

You can't add any text affects to a srt.

Baldrick - thanks for your reply. From Flash Integro website news: "October 15, 2014 - Flash-Integro developed a new major release of its acclaimed VSDC Free Video Editor 2.2.2. The update features industry-unique support for semi-transparent videos, offers convenient pre-configured profiles for web videos, adds support for SRT subtitles for easy labeling of and commenting on a video, and brings in instantly applied styles and effects. ... Instant styles and effects pursue the same goal: to let the user quickly apply a cool effect to a video and immediately see the result. The support for SRT subtitles makes it possible to add multiple text comments to certain scenes of the video using the built-in script language. "

as for the details to help me make it happen in real life .... them I can't find ...

I think it's just burned in subtitles. Not switchable for DVD.
