Probably a typical newbie question but here goes. I currently have Pinnacle DV Studio+ that I use for my video capture and editing. However, I have read a number of posts on this site that seem to rave about how good Virtualdub is for capturing video. Is there any benefit in using Vdub over my Pinnacle Studio for capture - given that it is full DV capture I can't see what benefits there would be in doing this?

In addition to this I have tried using Vdub to capture from my camera to see if there is any difference but I get an error 'No capture driver available'. What would I need to do to get vdub to 'talk' to my Pinnacle Firewire card and camera?

    Thanks.

  2. I would just use the Pinnacle dv. It works great and is easy to use. You will get better quality using vdub over pinnacle for dv capture.

    Tommy,

Thanks for the reply. If Vdub will give better quality then I would like to give it a try just to see if it makes enough difference to justify a more tricky capture method. However, I have searched lots of forums to try and find out how to use it with my Pinnacle DV card and I can't find anything that tells me how to do it. As per my original post, I get the error 'No capture driver available' when I select the Capture AVI menu item - any ideas anyone?

    Rgds,

  4. Sorry dude, I misspoke or rather mistyped.

That would be you would NOT get better quality from Vdub over Pinnacle. What you would use vdub for would be if you needed to go past the 4gb limit.
