    Hi everybody,
I have an mp4 file with closed captions and want to extract the subtitle srt. I tried it with CCextractor, but the software says "Failed to open mp4".
    What can I do?
I used the original settings of the software, but also tried with mp4 selected. Is there anything else I can do?
Or other software I could use?
    Thanks.

Can you post the details from the mp4. Use mediainfo, open mp4, view->text and copy everything.

Have you tried mp4box or a gui like mymp4boxgui and see if it finds any subtitle track in the mp4?

Try remux the mp4 with mymp4boxgui (or from mp4box command line). Add the mp4 and make a new mp4. Open in ccextractor.

Or try extract the video track with mp4box to a m4v and open in ccextractor.

There is only the Mux and Demux option in Mp4 Box. No Remux option.
When I extract the videotrack and open it in CCextractor I get this
    Incomplete box gd..failed to open

Ok got that. But now CCextractor says
Analyzing data with GPAC (MP4 library)
    opening : ok
    Track 1, type=vide subtype=avc1
    Track 2, type=soun subtype=MPEG
    mp4: found 2 tracks: 1 avc and 0 cc

    closing media: ok
Found 1 AVC track(s). found no dedicated CC track(s).

There are no captions in there.

Handbrake can't transfer captions into an mp4 as an actual CC track, it either burns them in or converts them to ordinary subtitles.

So what are you saying? The audio of this video can't be extracted to an srt file? I don't believe that. There must be an option.

Well it must be possible. because somebody else has the srt file, but he is asking 20 dollars for it.
I am not 100% sure, but I think he got it from the videofile.

Do you mean that particular file made by handbrake?

If he's asking $20 for it, is it possible he made the subtitles himself by ear?

I mean the subtitles for the video I try to get subtitles for in this thread. Yes it is possible he made them himself, but I don't think so.
BTW you are from Australia. Can I contact you? I tried to send you a pm, but I think you haven't enabled that.

The other possibility is that he captured the digital captions from the broadcast transport streams. If you have one of THOSE we might be able to help, otherwise Subtitle Edit and some of your spare time is your best option.

The first link is the one in which he asks for 20 dollars. After you have paid, he will send you the srt file.
And no I don't have the transport streams. And I don't think he has those either. He isn't from Australia and Foxtel-Soho is pay tv.
