    The screenshot attached here is from a video captured using a screen capture program. The source has a resolution of 720x376. It is recorded as it is and further processed in VirtualDub to reduce the file size using external encoder x264 without altering the resolution. As the source itself is bad, I don't think further improvement is possible. However, I seek suggestions if I can remove the artifacts to bearable minimum amount at least by using any plug-in. Please see the trees and trunks.

    You can try a 'deblocking' filter in VD when you process the video, but I doubt it will help much. http://www.compression.ru/video/deblocking/index_en.html

    Thank you for the suggestion. I tried the above mentioned filter and got a marginal improvement. Ofcourse, I won't expect a miracle unless the source was good. Now, it looks as 'something is better than nothing'.

    Often times, less is the best procedure for filtering. I never expect miracles, just a bit of improvement and to not make the problem worse.
