  1. Hi. I have a Sony camcorder and used it recently to shoot my wedding.

When I came to view the footage there was an MP4 file located on the memory stick which was not even viewable on the camera. It's a large file - about 25Gb. I transferred it into my laptop but cannot view it in any applications including VLC. I believe it has become corrupt somehow. I tried a couple of free recovery apps but nothing can open/recognise it. I went onto an MP4Repair website and they got back to say it's 60mins long and is completely recoverable (they sent me a short preview of it). I can't afford the $250 fee but believe it is now recoverable.

Can anyone offer any advice? My new wife will be forever in my debt if I can recover this important video!!

    Thanks in advance.

You can try graus video repair tool.

Try the trial first. Extract all files from the zip. Start gs.exe. Select a working mp4 from your camera and the broken and try repair it. It should then create a repaired folder with the file. Try play it and see how it works.

Or have you tried it already?

  3. Thank you for your help. I tried the software as suggested. When I play the recovered file it is very shaky (the video mostly but the sound a bit too). It also has a beeping sound on the audio. Do you think this is the best I will get? I tried viewing it on both VLC and Windows media (same playback on both).

    Thanks again.

Why don't you post the semi-recovered video online and crowdfund the $250 to get it fixed right? I'm sure there will be plenty of people to take pity on you, unless your wedding looks expensive!
