  3. what i don't think it says there is that only a very few players can recognize MPEG-5.1, even fewer receivers can decode it (some european models, some high-end kenwoods), and that even if you have both pieces, it's not necessarily the case that the DVD player can output the signal when it sees a CD instead of a DVD (like mine, a pioneer 343)

  5. This has been discussed tons of times. As others have stated, SVCDs do officially support multi-channel MPEG audio but few DVD players support this.

    In essence, this is hard to make and probably won't work. I would just stick to Dolby Surround stereo.

  6. if you really want 5.1 though miniDVD or cDVD is the way to go for that. but almost no players support this. wait until you get a dvd-rw
