I am taping a 2 person interview in front of a live audience. I need help trying to figure out how to record sound directly from my mixer to my camera. The two people talking will be each wearing Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 lavs which will be fed to a Yamaha Stagepas 300 mixer.

I will be using a Panasonic DVX100b to tape the interview. Is there a way to connect my camera into the mixer to capture the sound? I've seen it done before, I just don't know how to do it with my equipment. Maybe it's not possible?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. The mixer has line level outputs that would need to be fed into the xlr mic/line inputs on your camera. You may only need a simple rca to xlr if the camera can handle the attenuation. (Assuming I'm reading the pictures correctly on the mixer.)

If you use the camera's XLR jacks, which is recommended because then you can control the record level with the knobs, be sure to set the MIC/LINE switch to the LINE position.

I just gave it a try and no success. I purchased an XLR (male to male) adapter to use with my XLR cable that connects to the Yamaha mixer to the DVX100 camera. Both were set to Line, after that didn't work, I tried Mic as well. Unsuccessful. I looked in the camera menu to see if there was any setting, but it doesn't look like one. Any help would be much appreciated!

Did you set the audio CH SELECT switches to INPUT 1 and/or INPUT 2 as appropriate? Did you turn up the AUDIO control knob(s)? Are you connecting to the REC OUT jacks on the mixer?

Yes...I set the CH Select switches to Input and checked the audio control knobs. On the mixer, I connected the cable into the XLR slots and hit the LINE button. Are the XLR slots REC OUT jacks? Or do I have to use RCA cables? I've attached a photo of the mixer.Click image for larger version

The XLR jacks are inputs to the mixer. You need to use the RCA jacks with the funky little picture above them. Please do avail yourself of the fine manual.

  9. You can use RCA to XLR or you can use this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-104760-3-Feet-Premier-Series/dp/B001UJGNMO/ref=pd_bxgy...3JX1VXEWSFJ9VR
connect it to the jack next to the RCA out, set the camera at LINE level.

Yeah, since XLR cables are designed with signal flow in mind, they standardised on Female (input) to Male (output), so the "need" for male-male turnarounds was a giveaway.
