Hi guys, i have a quick question about Megui encoding, i encoded a 1080p Bluray mkv file as always, at the end of the encoding i set the file size to 1.1GB with approximately bitrate 1660 Kbps (source 10 Mbps and is 1h 30mn long). But after encoding i got 2.6GB instead of 1.1GB for the final file. Never happened this before i always got the size which was set. So why is this happening, can someone give advice? (also tried with 1GB and 1.2 and 1.3GB but i get always a too high size 2.7GB) Thx in advance

There's no such thing as a BluRay mkv.

Have you checked the runtime of the encoded video? So it's same as the original.

    What is the audio bitrate?

Even if you possibly mean that you converted an MKV ripped from a Blu-ray (e.g. like makeMKV exports), we still won't be able to help unless you post the whole log file of the MeGUI session in question.

Yes, both have the same runtime (1h 31mn)

Audio bitrate is 384 Kbps 5.1

Today i tried once again but with no success, then i checked the video bitrate and it was surprisingly 3860 Kbps. When i set the file size, megui showed me an average bitrate of 1800 Kbps. So this is the reason why is the size of the encoded movie so big, but i still dont understand it why it is happening. Maybe this helps for better overview.

Again: Please post your MeGUI log. Maybe as attachment, or as (XML formatted) pastebin.

  10. Seams like a but in Xvid encoder. Update MeGUI to the latest developer build (2604 if IIRC). That will also update Xvid to 1.3.4 and try again.

    Indeed, very suspicious details...

    Code:
    ---[Information] [10/1/2015 12:46:48 AM] I frames: 852 frames, size = 29030/ 24733602, quants = 1 / 1.00 / 1
    ---[Information] [10/1/2015 12:46:48 AM] P frames: 47691 frames, size = 21927/ 1045743137, quants = 1 / 1.01 / 2
    ---[Information] [10/1/2015 12:46:48 AM] B frames: 87367 frames, size = 18511/ 1617254152, quants = 1 / 1.02 / 3
    ...

    ---[Information] [10/1/2015 12:46:50 AM] Video Bitrate Desired: 1813 kbit/s
---[Information] [10/1/2015 12:46:50 AM] Video Bitrate Obtained (approximate): 3798 kbit/s
xvid_encraw seems to "get cramps" trying to encode with quantization 1 in pass 2.

Is there a reason to use "turbo mode" in pass 2? This option is clearly designed for pass 1 only.

  12. LigH.de, you might be right. IIRC Xvid had a rate contol problems if max quantizer is set to 1. Reducing max quant to 2 for all frame types might help.

I have it set on "use turbo mode in first pass". So an update and reducing max quant to 2 for all frames should help? ok i will try it and comment later

Not only that, you also seem to use a quite outdated version, so I wonder if you still prefer using the "stable" version of MeGUI; switching to the development updater will give you much more recent tools (maybe a few recent bugs too, but they are usually fixed quickly).

So i did everything like you said (updated megui, set max quant to 2 for all frames) and the result is a 380MB file instead of 1.1GB. Dont know what im doing wrong but i know that there must be a solution.

Still working with the outdated Xvid version 1.2.2?

  17. And don't just install a newer XviD on top of an already installed older version. First, use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the older version and then install the more recent version.

This is related to xvid_encraw in MeGUI, manono; so a "development update" may be required to update the whole MeGUI installation, including xvid_encraw.

  19. Okay, thanks. If he can't uninstall XviD separately, then ignore me.

Well, he could possibly exchange xvid_encraw in a "stable" installation of MeGUI, but I won't guarantee that the command line parameter set is still 100% compatible, most probably some parameters may have changed their value range in details between v1.2.2 and v1.3.4.
