Author DVD using different format videos

Through the years I have recorded a lot of family videos of various things and want to be able to put them on a DVD to be played on a stand alone dvd player so I can make multiple copies and give them to family members to watch. These videos are in formats such as avi, wmv, mov, mpg and so forth. I know they would have to be converted over to some other format but I have no clue on what format. I've searched a lot of websites to only confuse myself even more. I know many years ago I made some using vcs or something like that but the quality was just horrible but watchable.

Any suggestions on how to go about converting my videos and burning them on to a DVD for a stand alone player, what software?

OK, downloaded and ran AvsToDVD , burned to DVD but only audio was there, no video. Also it said that imgburn was not installed so I DL'd that and installed it.

Also for some reason one of the programs I downloaded and installed also installed some dang malware and I spent an hour getting rid of those.

What are you using to play the DVD? What does a MediaInfo text file have to say about the DVD? Post it here if you can't make sense of it.

You're right, I have no idea what all this means. The DVD plays on my computer fine, just not the stand alone DVD on my TV.

It's all in PAL format (25fps) and your standalone player likely only plays NTSC format. PCs can play either format. Check your settings in AvsToDVD.

The older player probably can read both NTSC and PAL (and output to NTSC), for maximum compatibility, convert again in AVStoDVD but this time make sure your project is NTSC (Options/Preferences/Video) and save those preferences as default.

I believe the developer is European so PAL may be the default setting. Just change that to NTSC. The second picture down in Baldrick's guide (and julitomg's explanation) shows where you do it:

OK, I made another DVD using NTSC and now it says "No Disc" in my stand alone player but it still plays on my computer. Here's the text file again but I think I'll take this problem over to the correct thread.
