I am new to burning Bluray. I have the burner installed, some blank discs ready to go. I hope to put some home movies that have been nicely transferred and tweaked and some other various files on Bluray. The files (at this point) are going to be mpeg2, and probably some m2ts from my current HDVideocam. (Tape captured thru hdvsplit) I could render the m2ts in Vegas (which is where I will be putting the files together) to something that might play better with the burning program, if it would work better with a different format. If that is the case, what should I render it to?
Is there a basic (free) program out there that will suit my needs, that seems to work pretty easy and is generally well regarded? I don't, at least at this point see me getting fancy with menus or anything. I attempted to d/l "multiAVCHD",but I believe that program isn't supported much or at all these days.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
Bruce

You have your terminology mixed up. You want Blu-Ray authoring software, which creates all the necessary files and folders for a Blu-Ray disc that's playable by a standard hardware Blu-Ray player. Blu-Ray burning software just puts that data on a Blu-Ray disc as the spec requires.
MultiAVCHD, tsMuxeR, and MakeBD (still in beta and buggy) are the only free Blu-Ray authoring programs listed in VideoHelp's software section.
ImgBurn is excellent free burning software that burns CD, DVD, and BD media. -
Thank you both. Yes, that was what I was looking for. Also, once posted, I clicked the now "hot" link for multiAVCHD and was able to get the d/l from the site here that it linked to. So I'll be playing with that, and hopefully it will do what I need. (WEll, I'm sure it will, the question is how much of its capabilities I will understand). There seems to be a decent tutorial about how to use it here.

Vegas generally comes bundled with DVD Architect which is the only consumer level BD authoring program available currently (and not likely to change). Are you sure you don't already have DVD Architect lurking somewhere on your computer? Also, I am not a Vegas user, but if I am correct, you can burn directly to BD from within Vegas which will then be playable in a set top box.
It is important to understand that "authoring" really involves chapters, menus, pop-ups, special features, etc. This requires, as usually_quiet said, more sophisticated software. But hand in hand with that, it also involves a lot more work.
