  1. Hi,

I was using Vdub 1.4.9 frameserving to TMPG 2.52 without any problems in my system (Win XP Pro) . Yesterday I had to reinstall XP, and installed the new versions of Vdub (1.4.10) and TMPG (2.53).

After installing the Vdub handler (Auxsetup), and running TMPG, it could not open any .vdr , giving the message " File nnn.vdr can not open, or unsupported" .

Some tests later, here is what I discovered:

    1. If I use the Vdub 1.4.10 handler, TMPG can't open de .vdr file

    2. Using Vdub 1.4.9 (unistall the 1.4.10 handler and install the 1.4.9) - TMPG works fine.

    3. Installing 1.4.9 handler and running Vdub 1.4.10 - TMPG works fine.

So the problem seems to be the 1.4.10 handler - can someone test and confirm if this problem occurs in other systems ? For the moment I have only this 2 programs (Vdub and TMPG) installed on XP.

    Thanks,

    David

  2. You are damn right! god darnit! and I was busting my head trying to figure what I did wrong! I wanted to add VirtualDub frameserving with Subtitles to the guide, but I also used the latest 1.4.10 and TMPGEnc wouldn't open (nothing would open) the VDR or in AVI format (using the proxy) the frameserving from VirtualDub! and because of that I didn't add it to the guide! how rude!

Thanks for mentioning it, and I thought it was something I did wrong (was my first time trying it!).

hmm, seems to be a XP issue, because it is working fine on w2k here.

  4. Today I tested this on Windos Me, and the result was the same : with the Vdub 1.4.10 handle, TMPG cannot open the .vdr file. With the 1.4.9 handle, works fine.

    Truman,

I'll l try to install a Win2K to test, but just to be sure, did you uninstalled the 1.4.9 handle and installed the 1.4.10 with AuxSetup?

  5. I'd like to report the same conclusion using Windows98 Second Edition, so this is not specific to Windows XP.

Something isn't right with the Handler of VirtualDub v1.4.10, propably a bug.

dmaullet and Sefy, yes I did uninstall the handler 1.49 and installed 1.4.10. It workes like a charme here.
What does it mean to install the handler? You are coping VDRemote.dll and vdsvrlnk.dll to c:\winnt\system\. I checked the version of both files and yes, both came with VD v.1.4.10.
Also it "Add VDRemote class and AVIFile enrties to registry", whatever that means. I am not familar with the registry. If you can please check this. I believe I found the key here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{894288e 0-0948-11d2-8109-004845000eb5}

Well I uninstalled the handler1.4.10, installed 1.4.9, uninstalled 1.4.9 and installed 1.4.10 again. I even unregistered read_avs.dll, that is used as VFAPI plugin (VirtualDub script reader). Frameserving with VD 1.4.10 to TMPGEnc 2.53plus (and all the other encoders, that I tested yesterday) is working well for me. I have no clue.

  8. So manu reg and unreg, you completly confused me
Either way, on my 98SE installing the handler which came with 1.4.10 is not working on any program (with proxy or without), on the other hand, v1.4.9 works like a charm.

Oh, Truman, thanks for that new guide! pity you didn't release it a few days earlier, I could have used it!

Thanks to your instructions, i've added to the v2.0 guide all these programs: VideoServer / VirtualDub / CCE Standalone / LSX Standalone

Is anyone else here who has problems to frameserve with VD 1.4.10? Or if you got it to work, which OS do you use?

  12. Hi,

Here is one solution for the virtualdub 1.4.10 frameserve problem: copy the file "msvcr70.dll" to the Windows\system32 directory (tested in XP).

After this TMPG can read the .vdr files without problem.

I have found this file in some sites using Google.

I am not sure whether this is VD related, but I did it indeed, because CCE asked once for that .dll. Maybe that's why I never had problems with VirtualDub1_4_10.

  14. isn't it MSVCRT70.dll you need?

Still could not get Vdub frameserving with the earlier handler and 1.4.10. Maybe I did not de/re-install the handler correctly. Have reverted to using Vdub 1.4.9 for main program and Tmpg works fine.

  18. I am racking my brain out trying to do this [true being a newbie my brain is very limited]
    I have Virtualdub 1.4.8 1.4.9 and 1.41.0 and TMPGEnc 2.53.35.130 and also 2.52.
I am trying to add subtitles for the 1st time after making several vcd's with very good results. I follow all the guides from ripping with subrip to converting the AVI using vfpiconvert so that Virtualdub can read it i then add the filters and the preview is fine. BUT ! when it comes to Frameserve TMPGenc still does not open the vdr file. I have tried all the diferent methods of installing and reinstalling handlers and diferent versions and still no deal. My o/s is ME [ i know but beggars can't be choosers ] Any ideas ?

Hi, re my previous email. Got frameserve working once but since then Tmpg just hangs when I try to open the vdr file. Tried re-installing both programs (vdub 1.4.9 and tmpg 2.53.35) and get same result. Not sure how to de-install the above prgs however as they don't come up in Windows Add/Remove utility.

Can anyone suggest anthing. Frameserve is such a great functionality. I run Me on Celeron MMX, 128mb, 40Gb HDD and have had no problems with any of the capturing, converting, burning software so far when used individually.

    Help appreciated.
    Cheers

  20. Hi Jeff,

I also have this problem of TMPGEnc freezing when opening .vdr files. It happens in Windows Me, but not in XP.

Here is what I do with TMPG/Win ME:

. Run TMPGENC and try to open the .vdr - TMPG freezes .

. Wait about a minute, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and force TMPGEnc to end.

. Run it again and now it opens the .vdr file

. If it doesn't work, run TMPGEnc a second time while the first is frozen, it will also open the .vdr. Later a message will appear asking you to close the first instance of TMPGEnc.

I really don't know why this situation happens with TMPG and ME, perhaps other pepople have a solution, but I couldn't find one yet.

    Thanks David

It works. At least I have a workaround now. I should have played a bit more with it as you obviously did.

What a wonderful medium this is for considerate people like yourself to share their knowledge.

  22. I also get the annoying:

"This application has failed to start because MSVCR70.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

dialog box when I tried installing all my fav tools including VDub.

As fat as I can tell MSVCDR70.DLL is part of VS.NET or Visual Basic 7. It may be that our man, Avery Lee, has created a new call to this DLL and since the DLL is not distributed with VDub...Vdub is handicapped?

I would like the ask Avery.

  23. No luck finding msvcd70.dll. Can someone please give me a link?
    I found it.

  24. Found a trick somewhere on the net: look for the file MSVCRT.DLL, rename a copy to MSVCR70.DLL and put it in the system32 directory.

Apparently the old DLL works just fine.

Have not tried the fix yet but I ll do it as soon as I get home.

    Cheers

  27. I know that this has been a big conversion with subtitles and all; But I'm using VirtualDub 1.4.9 and loaded the frameserve and then I tried to load it up on the TMPGEnc 12a (haven't changed the version because its the best) and it freezes.
So should I download the new TMPEnc 2.55; to solve this freezing problem. The OS I'm using is Win98SE.
I never had problems making a XVCD, but adding subtitles is a killer!!!!
